History of Champions League (a.k.a European Cup) Part 1
The first ever European Cup game took place on the afternoon of 4th September 1955 in Lisbon when Sporting Lisbon played out a 3-3 draw with Partizan Belgrade, and the first European Cup goal was scored by Sporting's Joao Baptista Martins, but the most significant game of the first round came four days later in Geneva. On 8th September, Miguel Munoz scored a 74th minute goal that sent Real Madrid on their way to a 2-0 win against Servette in the first leg of their first round tie. Nobody knew it at the time, but that was the beginning of five years of dominance by the Spanish champions.
The money and vision of Real president, Santiago Bernabeu had provided the Madrid club with not only a stadium that was the envy of Europe, but had also started to put together a team that would dominate the opening years of the Champions Cup. With the forward line that they posessed, under the guidance of coach Jose Villalonga, they were able to paper over some of the deficiencies that they had at the back, for few defences could cope with the likes of the great Alfredo Di Stefano from Argentina, Hector Rial from Uruguay and the lightning quick Francisco Gento when they were in full flow. The Swiss of Geneva were blown away by seven goals in the first round of the inaugural competition and, the Yugoslavs of Partizan Belgrade appeared to be as good as out after a 4-0 Christmas Day defeat in Madrid in the second round. But the second leg in wintry Belgrade saw Partizan leading 3-0 when a shot on goal only failed to croos the line thanks to the amount of slush in the penalty area. The Real defenders cleared the ball and they were now into the semi-finals, but there they were likely to be even more severely tested when they came up against the Italians of AC Milan.

HOMEMDGE RECIPE FOR A HAPPY WIFE
The other day someone asked my husband a very interesting question. They said: “Your wife seems to smile all the time. How do you keep her so happy?” Now, he laughed at first, because he knows good and well there is no such thing as a wife who’s happy wife 24/7, but then he took a stab at giving them what he felt was a sufficient answer. He wants to post a video blog about what he said, so I’ll hold on going into it for now. However, I would like to share what I think the recipe for a happy wife is.
Wives, send this to the hubby if you agree. Men, listen up (even if you’re not married yet!). This is how my husband makes me happy — and as most of you can see, I smile a lot. Okay, let’s do this!

The then Government of South
Sudan started work on trade mainstreaming during the Interim
Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) period [1].
The Government issued “Trade Policy Guidelines” in 2009 which stated
the importance of establishing necessary institutions to mainstream
trade into the development priorities, policies and plans and
acknowledged capacity constraints for trade policy formulation and
implementation. The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment (MCII)
of the Republic of South Sudan (RSS) has been mandated to achieve these
objectives in coordination with line ministries, the private sector and
the donor community. Following independence, the Ministry has committed
itself to undertake a full range of activities to prepare for and fully
operationalise this mandate, including policy, legal frameworks and
institutions, as well as signing of regional and international trade
protocols.
In order to respond to the
significant capacity constraints facing the RSS’ integration in the
world economy, the Government requested participation in the Enhanced
Integrated Framework (EIF). The EIF is a partnership involving Least
Developed Countries (LDCs), donors and international organizations with
the following key objectives: (i) to assist LDCs in mainstreaming trade
into their national development plans and poverty reduction strategies;
and (ii) to assist in the coordinated delivery of trade-related
technical assistance to meet the trade capacity gaps identified by LDCs.
For more information on the IF please see: www.integratedframework.org.
The
first stage of the EIF process is the preparation of a Diagnostic Trade
Integration Study (DTIS) to provide the analytical basis for setting
priorities. The purpose of the DTIS is to identify key constraints to
the country’s integration into the multilateral trading system and the
global economy. The interim EIF Board has adopted a template to guide
the preparation of DTISs.
It is recognized
however, that the DTIS is country-specific. The guidelines cover a broad
range of topics reflecting the multi-faceted nature of trade issues.
These topics include: macroeconomic environment; trade policy and
institutions; trade agreements and market access; trade poverty
reduction and sustainable development; business environment and
institutional framework for trade and investment; trade facilitation;
standards and quality infrastructure; sectoral issues and implementation
arrangements. A set of policy recommendations and priority technical
assistance needs are summarized in an Action Matrix which together with
the DTIS is assessed and validated by stakeholders in a National
Validation Workshop. An executive summary will highlight the key
messages and findings of the DTIS.
An EIF
familiarization workshop, with the participation of the IF Executive
Secretariat and various UN agencies, was held on 13-14 November 2012 as a
first step to sensitize partners about the objectives of the programme
and its procedures and promote the active involvement of national
stakeholders in the DTIS process. |

The GEF/LDCF project “Building adaptive
capacity to address Climate Change threats for sustainable development
strategies in coastal communities of Haiti” has been developed based on
the conclusions and recommendations of the NAPA Haiti, which has
identified the coastal development sector as a national priority for
adaptation to climate change (CC). The project aims to meet the
additional costs of building national and local CC adaptive capacity,
while enhancing the resilience of existing coastal development policies
and plans facing CC risks. Haiti is part of the Least Develop Country
(LDC) group, and one of the poorest and most vulnerable (1st
worldwide according to the latest CC vulnerability assessment,
Maplecroft 2012) country to CC-related disasters. Haiti has long been
vulnerable to tropical storms and hurricanes. The country lies on the
main path of tropical storms that originate in the Atlantic and hit the
Caribbean islands to each hurricane season. However, in recent years,
the country is affected by a significant increase in the frequency of
severe natural hazards disasters, most likely due to CC forcing.
Currently, the central government and local authorities require
additional technical and management support to cope with the anticipated
anthropogenic climate modifications. Furthermore, the coastal
population in particular has not the capacity, resources and financial
assistance to adapt and overcome the worsening climatic conditions. |

The 10 Commandments for Working Motherhood
Working motherhood means juggling career and family
Until Moses returns with a couple of stone tablets addressing motherhood, here's my take on the 10 commandments for working motherhood.
Thou Shall Trust Thine Instincts
You know your family best and you also know your employer. Trust your instincts when you feel your kids are acting out because they need your attention. Give them the extra time and nurturing, even if it means you miss a few minutes of work. Motherhood is your most important job, and not one to be taken lightly.Wednesday, 20 February 2013
11 Things Women Really Want From Wedding Night Sex
Now,
let’s be honest here: The majority of married couples don’t actually
get around to having sex on their wedding night. You might as well scrap
what watching all those rom-coms taught you. After all the craziness
that is surviving your wedding day in tact, you’re usually drunk,
exhausted, or both by the time you get back to your room. That said, who
wants to be a statistic? (Especially on their wedding night.) We
didn’t!
I say, add “getting laid” to your wedding day to-do-list, right alongside all the other tasks you’ll go bat shit crazy over seeing go undone. And, if you’re gonna make it a priority, you might as well do it right. Men, here’s a handy little guide to what your wife-to-be will really want to get out of the evening’s activities, and ladies, here’s your first official “honey do” list.

THE ROMAN EMPIRE: The History, The Kings and The Collapse
The Founding of Rome is very much embroiled in myth.
Traces found by archaeologists of early settlements of the Palatine Hill date back to ca 750 BC.
This ties in very closely to the established legend that Rome was founded on 21 April 753 BC, which was traditionally celebrated in Rome with the festival of Parilia.
Two founding legends exist - Romulus and Remus and Aeneas.
Rather than contradict each other, the tale of Aeneas adds to that of Romulus and Remus.
Romulus and Remus
King Numitor of Alba Longa was ejected by his younger brother Amulius.
To do away with any further possible pretenders to his usurped throne,
Amulius murdered Numitor's sons and forced Numitor's daughter, Rhea
Silvia, to become a vestal virgin. (Vestal virgins were priestesses to
the goddess Vesta and were expected to guard their virginity in the
goddess' honour on pain of death.)
However Mars, the god of war became enchanted by her beauty and had his way with Rhea Silvia while she slept. As a result of this Rhea Silvia bore twins, Romulus and Remus.
An enraged Amulius had Rhea Silvia thrown into the river Tiber where she was caught beneath the waves by the river god who married her.
